What You Need
- 100% cotton worsted (#4) yarn in yellow (center) and a petal color
- 4.0 mm (G-6) hook
- Yarn needle and scissors
Abbreviations (US terms): MR = magic ring, ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, inc = 2 sc in the same stitch, dec = single crochet two together (invisible decrease recommended), BLO = back loop only. The number in brackets is the stitch count at the end of the round.
Free Pattern: Daisy Flower Coaster (about 4 in / 10 cm)
The ch 3 at the start of a round counts as the first dc.
Round 1 (yellow): MR, ch 3, 11 dc in the ring. Pull tight and sl st to the top of the ch 3. (12)
Round 2 (yellow): ch 3, dc in the same st, 2 dc in each st around. Sl st to join. Fasten off. (24)
Round 3 (petal color): Join the petal color in any st. *Sl st in the next st, skip 1 st, 7 dc in the next st, skip 1 st*; repeat from * to * 5 more times. Sl st to the first sl st. Fasten off. (6 petals)
Each repeat uses exactly 4 stitches of Round 2, so the 6 petals fit perfectly around the 24 stitches.

Make It Lie Flat
- Weave in the ends on the back.
- Spray lightly with water, pin each petal into shape and let dry.
- For extra stiffness, use a light spray starch.

Color Palettes That Always Work

- Boho: terracotta, mustard and sage with oatmeal centers.
- Retro: orange and hot pink with a white center.
- Minimal: cream petals and a beige center.

Make a Little “Flower Pot”
Want to store your coasters like a bouquet? Crochet a small rectangle in green rows for the base, then work around it, with the first round in the back loop only to create a sharp edge. Keep going up until the box is about half the height of a coaster, and add two leaves on the front.
Gift Ideas
- A set of 4 for Mother’s Day or a teacher gift.
- Match the colors to someone’s kitchen.
- Add a bag of tea or coffee.
Frequently Asked Questions
My petals curl. Why?
Your tension may be tight. Try a slightly bigger hook for Round 3, and block the coaster.
Can I make a bigger flower?
Use a bulky yarn and a 5–6 mm hook for a placemat-sized flower.
