In this tutorial
What You Need
- Worsted weight (#4) yarn in green, plus red scraps for the bow
- 4.0 mm (G-6) hook
- Optional: tiny red beads or French knots for “berries”
Abbreviations (US terms): MR = magic ring, ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, inc = 2 sc in the same stitch, dec = single crochet two together (invisible decrease recommended), BLO = back loop only. The number in brackets is the stitch count at the end of the round.
Free Pattern: Ruffled Mini Wreath (about 3 in / 7.5 cm)
Foundation: ch 20 and sl st to the first ch to form a ring (don’t twist it). (20)
Round 1: ch 1, sc in each ch around. Sl st to the first sc. (20)
Round 2: ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in the same st, 3 dc in each st around. Sl st to the top of the ch 3. Fasten off. (60)
The extra stitches make Round 2 ruffle beautifully — that’s the “leafy” wreath look.

Little Bow (red)
Bow: ch 12, fasten off. Tie the chain into a bow and sew it at the bottom of the wreath.
Add a hanging loop at the top: ch 15 and sl st back into the same stitch. Sew on a few red beads or make French knots as berries.

How to Make Ornaments Hold Their Shape
- Fabric stiffener: dip flat ornaments (stars, snowflakes, candy canes) in stiffener or a mix of white glue and water, shape, pin and let dry.
- Firm stuffing for 3D ornaments like baubles and trees.
- Blocking: pin flat pieces on a foam mat and spray with water.
Best Yarn for Ornaments
- Cotton: crisp stitches for stars and snowflakes.
- Acrylic: soft and puffy for baubles and hearts.
- Metallic blends: a touch of sparkle.

Ideas Beyond the Tree
- Tie an ornament on a present instead of a bow.
- Make one ornament a day as an advent calendar.
- String several on twine for a garland.
- Slip a flat ornament into a Christmas card.
Plan a Color Palette
Pick 3–4 colors for a coordinated tree: classic red, white and gold; Scandinavian white, gray and natural wood; or pastel pink, mint and silver.
